Gotta stop posting on other peoples blogs it's getting addictive
Ok I gotta stop commenting on others blogs & actually get on with some art work in the evenings! But I’ve been stalking this lady’s blogs for a while (and the dare books on my Christmas wish list) so here we go again, who knew I was so opinionated (put you hands down it was a rhetorical question)
http://soundsofscience.blogspot.com/2007/10/wha-happan.html
Ok let’s make this 109 comments or by the time I’ve edited it I may even be 201 I’m not sure! LoL. And I’m sorry but I seem to be having verbal diarrhea again!
I’m not completely up on everything that’s going on in the scrap world, not quite sure why every one apparently hates you already (and I don’ really care, I take people on face value) I understand how HOF can make a huge difference to someone trying (hoping) to make a living from what may have started out as a beloved hobby!
I’ve only been scrapbooking officially for over a year now, but have been an artist in some form or another, my entire life. I was lucky enough that my parents kept letting me play, so I’ve always done something creative! I have no illusions that I will ever make a living as an artist, it’s a hobby that sometimes pays for itself; I have to have a real job so I can live.
I’ve only entered one scrapbooking contest & it’s driving me insane not knowing if I’ve been selected for the final stage, I’ve heard nothing it’s been months, I don’t care if they don’t want my stuff I just want to know one way or another!!!! So it must be really bad if you’ve pinned a lot of hopes & dreams on the HOF contest. This may be why some people have turned bitter, it’s very hard to be a good looser, society places a lot on being a winner number 1! To quote a No fear t-shirt
“2nd place is just 1st looser”
It’s sometimes easier to blame, others than except that people don’t like your stuff, especially scrapbooking as it’s so personal and can feel like an attack on you.
In the past most artist & I include the “greats” didn’t make much money from their art, some even died in poverty.
Art is one of the few subject that there is no right answer, I mean 1+1 = 2 (unless your gonna be a smart ass then its 11)
I failed my art A-level I got an N (this means not a fail but not a pass or Nearly as I call it) I thought I’d answered the question.(yes I did cry) The word for the year I did it was reflections. I expect they wanted an oil painting study of glass still life with reflections but that’s just not me, I always twist things so I did a self portrait of me in my great grandmother’s dressing table mirror with her ghost looking over my shoulder – the idea was reflections of the past as well as actual reflections, they didn’t like it, my art teacher did and so did the art college I got into you may have heard of it Camberwell college of arts & crafts where David Hockney went, to name some one you might have heard of! I mean I failed, but I also beat over 2000 people most of which probably past they’re art A Level to get a place on the course, go figure!
So just because someone who was on a judging panel didn’t like your stuff & you didn’t win doesn’t mean your stuff is no good remember half a cow in formaldehyde may not be everyone’s idea of art, the kiss by Klimt may be more your thing!
Ok thanks for letting me post this on your blog if it didn’t crash it – if fate stole it I’m gonna post it on my blog
Congrats on HOF sorry you’re having so much fuss, it really is up to CK to sort themselves out by the sounds of it.

and the funny thing is this actually got up on her site but my internet went down (as it always seems to do around midnight nowerdays thanks T*s*a*i so my post got lost) ok gotta go *G*
Comments
Aw thanks but is it bad blog etiquette to comment longer than the original post? He he
I think it’s probably ok if it’s my own blog humm!
I must admit I drop in and do random niceness, my fav on flickr is
Just because every photo should have a comment & feel loved
Or sometimes substitute blog for photo on blogs
It’s a bit naff but at least you’ve got validation that someone is seeing your stuff & it makes me feel warm & fuzzy. If someone gets loads of traffic I don’t always comment unless I really have to, but if I see a blog that has none I have to put something just to show I care.
My problem is when I’m trawling 200 or so blogs & writing longish comments that I do actually take time over, as I’m not sure if I’ve said before I’m dyslexic & I really check things over with a fine tooth comb and re read & edit things 3 or sometime 4 times before I post! So it takes time, which is why I’ve started including my bloging on others sites or I’d have nothing to post on my site, plus it’s a useful way of seeing where I’ve been!
Anyway watch out there’s a *G* about
Opps, Sorry you probably won’t get that unless you saw the watch out there’s a Humphrey about adverts some time back in the 70’s I think
Oh well
